Field notes
Short entries on tools, workflows and small discoveries. Updated when there is something worth writing down.
Keeping a project log that survives context switches
The useful unit is not the task but the decision: what was chosen, what was rejected and why. A log of decisions is short, searchable and still meaningful a year later, while a log of activity is neither.
Backups that are actually restorable
- Three copies, two media, one of them off site.
- Verify by checksum after every copy, not by file size.
- Restore something small every month so the procedure stays alive.
On editing timelines
Relinking media is cheap; renaming media is expensive. Keep the folder structure identical across drives and the editor will follow you anywhere.
